Welcome to Skating-Friends.com.

This is the web site that will help you meet up with lost friends and colleagues from the skating world. Registering your name and details places your name in the search path so you can be found by your friends, old and new. Perhaps friends you haven't seen for a long time, perhaps from other countries, perhaps from your home town.

The site has been produced by two UK roller skaters: coach Nick Mallinson who was based at Rollerbury in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk from 1982 - 1996, and Great Yarmouth skater Richard Manthorpe, who won the Silver Medal in the Men's Figures at the Youth European Championships in 1991 in Switzerland.

The idea for the site was inspired by several different factors: partly the UK based "Friends Reunited" site and others like it, and my own experience. Personally, I have lost touch with many of my past skating contacts, and naturally I am not alone! The British Artistic Roller Skating web site www.british-roller-skating.org.uk is constantly receiving enquiries from past skaters who skated "some time ago" and who want get in touch with their old friends. So Richard and I developed the Skating Friends site to address that need. If you like the site, tell your other skating friends. The more people we have registered, the more features we will be able to add as time goes on. We are both skaters and have some great plans for it. If you have any ideas, we are always open to suggestions.

Skating-Friends.com is a true cyber product in the spirit of the site's objectives. During our years in the sport, Richard and I came from different rinks, and although we knew each other we probably spoke only a handful of times. At the time we started work on Skating Friends we probably hadn't spoken for about 15 years. However, we had mutual friends who said we should get in touch as we were both in the same field of work. Our first contact was via Microsoft's MSN Messenger and the concept of this web site was one of the first things we "talked" about. Most of the web site's development was done via e-mail and Messenger, with probably only a handful of telephone calls. By the launch date, 26th January 2003, we had not met.

So, once again the Internet has been the vehicle for the concept, development and delivery of the whole project!

Good luck and enjoy the site

Nick Mallinson
